The "bloody" ER visit that is. Last Friday I needed to run a couple of errands and took the girls to stop in Bed, Bath and Beyond. The girls were being so good. I was pushing a stroller, and carrying Lila (who wanted to down to play the chase game...) I was looking for the laundry section and I heard Clara say "Nora, let's skip!" Two seconds later, Nora was screaming with her hand to her head. She fell into the corner of a display shelf. A lovely kind women stopped to grab tissue. Tissue was not going to cut it. She immediatly applied pressure. I had Lila in my arms. An employee came over with paper towels and an ice pack. When I saw the injury I started to cry. I felt my world spin. I knew she needed to go to an emergency room, but my mind just froze. Someone said take her to SkyRidge. I just said "how??" How was I going to get three kids in their car seats, one who is bleeding and needed pressure applied? By this time Nora had so much blood on her face. It was in her eyelashes and the pooling in the corner of her eyes. Lila was screaming because someone was holding her while I held Nora. Clara's eyes were just the size of saucers. Someone suggested the paramedics. I said yes.
Let me tell you when you call 911, you get everyone. Two paramedics arrived, followed by about 6 firefighters. Jeez, what were they thinking...hysterical mom, minor cut child...yippee. So Nora was strapped to a board with a neck brace, protocal with a head injury. She was so upset and screaming "get me out of here, mommy". Heartbreaking. Brian was on his way from the office, so I left Lila and Clara with the firefighters and employees and rode with Nora in the ambulence.
I was relieved. We were headed in the right direction. By this time, the bleeding had stopped and I knew she was going to be okay. She was asking for Clara. We got to the hopsital and were seen right away (another ambulence benefit!) They put numbing gel on the cut to get it ready for the stitches. Brian, Clara and Lila made it. Between the gel and the gummy bears, Nora was feeling better. She was very brave while the doc stitched her up. Four stitches above her left eye.
Pops and Gram came over with Chuckles. Everything was going to be okay.
She has pretty much blocked it out. She knows the story from me telling it, but I don't think she recalls anything. The mind is so smart!
